I curated the group exhibition Borderless at the Migration Museum in London towards the end of my one-year residency there as curator and producer of The Art Studio and the first Residency Programme for migrant artists. This art exhibition acted as an intimate space to host the creativity and vision of all the artists who have taken up residency at the migration museum as part of the Room to Breathe exhibition: Habib Sadat, The New Art Studio, Ceyda Oskay, Shorsh Saleh and Belén L. Yáñez.
Borderless combines various art mediums and reflects on how the artists transformed their personal experiences of crossing borders into art, to convey a wider but intimate narrative of migration. It also focuses on how, through their art practice, these artists perceived the metaphor of borders, fought against division, and stood up for cultural diversity and inclusion. This exhibition not only showed our art and ways of thinking, but also our conversations and exchange over a year and how we engage with the public and connected to each other’s work. I wanted this final show to reflect on our experience at the Migration Museum and the borderless spaces we were able to create and share.
Borderless was presented at the Migration Museum in London in June – July 2019. More info: MigrationMuseum.org/Event/Borderless
