Internal Landscapes is a creative investigation into Lewisham’s meaningful places and how they inspire and shape its people. The exhibition is curated and produced by Dima Karout in partnership with the Horniman Museum and Gardens. Opened from November 2022 to March 2023. More info: Horniman Museum and Gardens
Dima invited local people and Council members to a series of curated conversations where they explored how the places we inhabit imprint themselves on our personal and collective identities. Her creative conversations used art as a platform to curate meaningful exchanges and this collective art exhibition is inspired by these encounters.
The art pieces and texts presented in the exhibition were created by participants. The exhibition combines large format prints, small sketches, poems and reflections from locals on their experiences within their neighbourhood. Written contributions from Bex Gordon and Tyrone Lewis, the invited poets, who discussed some of the stories with the participants, are part of the exhibition as well.
The exhibition allowed us to share this positive narrative of Lewisham with wider audience and to encourage further engagement through an inclusive new public programme that we designed to accompany and converse with the work on display. Additional info: About the Art interview
